Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced a decision to hold snap elections in June 24.2018 after he met the leader of the country’s opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahceli, at the presidential complex on 18.04.2018. The president’s decision comes a day after Bahceli called for early presidential and parliamentary elections.

“As result of consultations with Mr. Bahceli, we decided to hold elections on June 24, 2018, a Sunday,” Erdogan said in an address at his presidential palace after meeting Bahceli.

Stoltenberg is expected to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, and Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli.

Turkey-NATO relations, Operation Olive Branch, counter-terrorism, preparations ahead of the 2018 Brussels Summit, and regional issues are expected to be on the agenda of the meeting.

Tillerson to travel to Kuwait for anti-IS coalition meeting

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will travel to Kuwait, Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon and Egypt from February 11-16, where in Kuwait he will lead the US delegation to the Ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat the so-called Islamic State (IS) and participate in the Iraq Reconstruction Conference, it was announced Thursday. State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement “this is the third time Tillerson will gather with his counterparts for a meeting of the Global Coalition and the first since the defeat of (IS) in Raqqa and Iraq declared its territory liberated.” Tillerson “will express his appreciation to Kuwait for hosting these events at a critical time,” she affirmed.
